Strongholds are underground structures. They are believed to have been constructed by the First Ender Wizard, and are possibly linked to The End.

The first Strongholds were found by the Dwarves. Many had collapsed, with few rooms remaining, while other will complete. Wizards would often search them for magical items or books. One Wizard found Dragon inside a Stronghold.
